Built in the 60s, the Jakobshorn summit station in Davos had seen its better days and no longer met today's standards – the building had to be renovated inside and out.
The challenge: The seasons are different at 2600 m above sea level – at the beginning of October there is already a great deal of snow and winter has set in – in these conditions, a critical factor is a fast, timely installation. The statics alone presented an architectural challenge: The static specification for this location was 5.4 kN/m² – in standard circumstances the PV system is approved for 2.4 kN/m². The building facade cannot absorb any additional forces – so the system was optimized very quickly and an inspection by the Technical University of Dresden demonstrated that it could withstand a load of 5.4 kN/m².
Highlight: A new flair with a modern spirit now inspires the guests at the reopened summit station. Electricity is now produced ecologically in the Swiss mountains, nearer the sun.
