Photovoltaic installation on the embankment of the River Rems

The system

The new solar installation with CIS modules from Würth Solar has been operating on the embankment promenade in Neckarrems since January 2004.

100 modules, set at an angle of 15 degrees, are distributed over an area of 72 square metres.

This installation is designed to produce roughly 4,700 kilowatt hours per year, at the same time carbon dioxide emissions are reduced by 4.8 metric tons per annum.

The electricity generation corresponds to the power consumption of 40 street lights along Dorfstrasse and the Rems embankment.

Design of the solar installation

The solar roof, with a 20% glass proportion, runs along the embankment promenade and was supplemented by a viewing patio during the redesign of the Rems embankment and Dorfstrasse.

The costs of around 26,000 euros were reduced for the municipality by roughly 9,500 euros because the photovoltaic installation was sponsored as a model project by the Ministry of Environment and Transport's Klimaschutz-Plus (climate protection plus) programme.

The municipality reckons it will start making profits from selling electricity in eight years.
