Facade renovation at the university in Erfurt

During the course of the renovation at the University Erfurt the stairway was completely retreated. The glass was not installed in the typical way as a window; instead, it can be used to completely encase the building's framework and from now on, it will produce electricity.

The Würth Solar PV elements are ready to take on this challenge and demonstrate how the advanced architectural language of the future can succeed with BIPV.

The impressive minimalist design of this enveloping structure gives the building a new look. Modern architecture is characterized by Spartan design. Primarily clear, simple forms are used. The seeming lack of embodiment creates a diaphanous outer skin, which makes it possible to gain a sense of the external patterns and internal form of a building simultaneously.

System data:

  • 352 GeneCIS solar modules
  • Dimensions: 1,200 x 600 mm
  • Power output: 28.16 kwp
  • Completion: September 2010
