ALPHA - the piano of the 21st century

Sensors as piano strings

The felt hammer doesn’t strike two or three piano strings, as it usually does, but instead strikes pressure sensors that were developed and produced by Würth Elektronik. This technology was developed specially for the ALPHA. It is essential for the feel that the pianist has while playing that these sensors behave like piano strings. They help detect how hard the keys are struck and the resistance at the point of contact. As with a traditional piano, the amount of force determines the volume of the sound.?
